I listen to a LOT of jazz when I'm writing. It gets out of my way and allows me to concentrate on the task at hand. When I'm upstairs, I'll use my jazz library in iTunes. When downstairs, I would turn on the TV and listen to Music Choice's jazz station.
At least, I used to until tonight. While I wasn't paying attention, DirecTV switched out Music Choice with... XM Radio. I now get over seventy channels from the Clear Channel boys, including the "Fred," "Ethyl," and "Loft" stations that I dug so heavily when riding around with Chance this year.
With Stern heading to Sirius in January, satellite has been on my mind a lot. Problem is, I want programming from both services. Sirius seems to have the better music programming, but XM has the MLB broadcasts. And yes, I still have my iPod.
Too many damned choices.
I completely agree with you on the "too many damn choices" thing.
My parents have XM radio, and I loved Sirius the times I've had to get rental cars. I don't have an Ipod, but I do the Launchcast thing, and I have the Charter music stations on t.v., etc. I *do* know that you need alternatives living in the metroplex. (Mainstream radio here STINKS. You've also got all those lousy adverts. No offense to those involved in mainstream radio. I understand their hands are tied by corporate standards.)
Anyway - where was I? Oh yes. Too many choices. That's why I stick to listening to c.d.'s (remember those?), and making my own mixes. Because I spend so much time in my car I'd be more inclined to spend my $ on the satellite radio - probably the Sirius (but NOT because of Howard Stern.) :)
