Slept better last night than I have in previous nights, but not a full seven hours as I would like. I was hoping to use the first week away from baseball season to get caught up on all of the things that I need to reset my life. [I can hear you all saying, "Good luck with all that."]
I was entertaining the idea of going to Iowa this weekend. There's a Howard Dean rally going on, and the Dean campaign is flying people from Dallas, Austin and Houston to stump for the Guv'nor. It's most-expenses paid (flights and lodging are taken care of, with only meals to consider), and the opportunity to meet Dean looms larger than if I stayed at home. However, my knee is doing its normal cranky dance, and I'm really still broke from the Cancun trip. So, it looks like I'm staying home.
Meanwhile, Marty's going to closing day at Wrigley Field. This is the first time since 1996 where I haven't been to Wrigley at least once during the season. I'm more than a little bitter, but at least M agreed to wear my Cubs jersey to the game.
The game will be amazing -- with five games left, the Cubs have a one-game lead in the NL Central. Who knows where they'll be in four days? Damned exciting time to be a Cubs fan.
I refuse to watch any of the '8 Simple Rules' episodes that John Ritter completed prior to his death. I'm sorry, but I think the way ABC is promoting the remainig eps is more than a little ghoulish.
The need seems to be increasing for the DaM.com Institute for Pop Culture. I may work on this while I'm stalling for time on my new column. Let's face it -- the number of times where someone tells me or Marty "I haven't seen X Movie" or "I've never heard a song from Z Band" grows daily. So, what this endeavor would do is give a movie and band each 'lesson.' If you've experienced each, kudos. If not, you'll have the opportunity to pick 'em up from Amazon through a purchase link (when the damned thing is available on CD or DVD, that is).
Remember, kids -- ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is ignorance.
